Students in Mrs. Savvides class were excited to see their star ornaments on Wintonbury's Kindness Tree. On each star is written a kind gesture expressed by a student. The Kindness Tree will be on display at the Wadsworth Atheneum's 50th Anniversary Festival of Trees, December 5-15.
We had a great time welcoming families to our annual PJ Literacy Night. Families ventured on a scavenger hunt to find decorated doors to match specific books. Every child went home with a book they picked! Letter building, book making, story retelling, story time and a pizza dinner, were also part of the offerings.
Students in Mrs. Hein's classroom (Room 201) are investigating pinecones and representing their findings with drawings.
Children in Ms. Lombardo's Class (room 302) had a wonderful time playing in the leaves at Auerfarm today!
Students in Ms. Albrecht's class (room 101) are investigating roly polies in the greenhouse. They learned sometimes a roly poly will curl up in a ball when it is scared. This is called conglobation.
Students in Mrs. Mancini's class (room 206) worked with Chef Lise to make mashed potatoes. Wintonbury grew, harvested and investigated potatoes. After the mashing, came the tasting. Yum! All students will mash and taste potatoes either today or tomorrow.
Good evening,
We have been made aware of racist and derogatory text messages that have been sent to Bloomfield students and community members. It is our understanding that individuals across the country have received these hateful messages, and the Town of Bloomfield and the Bloomfield Board of Education stand united in condemning any and all forms of racism, prejudice, or hate within our community. We are deeply disturbed by the recent remarks involving this racially offensive language, which violates the core values of respect, inclusion, and equality that we hold as a town and school district.
Racist language, behavior, and rhetoric have no place in Bloomfield, and we are committed to ensuring that every member of our community feels safe, valued, and respected.
In conjunction with the Bloomfield Police Department, we are actively responding to these incidents and will work with local, state, and federal authorities to assist in their investigation.
The whole school community participated in a PINK OUT today to raise awareness and money for breast cancer.
Students in Mrs. Pearl's class (room 303) transformed their dramatic play area into an apple orchard. Students pick, sort and pay for their "apples".
We were thrilled to welcome Bloomfield Public Librarians to read with our students. BPL schedule regular visits to Wintonbury to share their love of books and reading!
Students in Mrs. Cole's (Room 301) class danced and played instruments in celebration of Hispanic Heritage.
On the courtyard, Mrs. Lomnicky's class (room 203) used spray bottles and squeegees to clean the art easel. Squeezing the spray bottle is a great way to strengthen hand muscles.
Today we started our regular field trips to Auerfarm! Students in Ms. Albrecht's class (room 101) were happy to visit the goats.
Students in Mrs. Hein's class (room 201) are experimenting with building tall towers using magnatiles!
This week our teachers met to develop year long goals based on school wide data.
Farm teachers, Miss Kim and Miss Kyle, met with classrooms this week to get them ready for their first field trip to auerfarm. As students looked at pictures of the farm, they reviewed and learned relevant vocabulary. We are very excited to start our farm rotations next week.
We welcomed families today for Meet and Greet. It was wonderful to reunite with returning families and welcome new families! We are so excited to start the new school year.
The rain didn't stop our principal, Mrs. Straker, from passing out popsicles and greeting students for the start of the new year. Thank you to our PTO for providing treats, managing traffic and helping to "take orders".
