Newly Accepted Students

There are 3 IMPORTANT STEPS to take after receiving an offer from the Regional School Choice Office (RSCO).

1. You MUST accept your offer within the given timeframe provided by RSCO (check you email and or phone for a text message to link you to your offer letter from RSCO). This will be done through RSCO.

2. You MUST then complete registration with the school district within the given timeframe provided by the school (check your welcome letter from the school). This will be done through the Bloomfield Public School district since Wintonbury is a magnet school in the Bloomfield Public School district.

3.  You MUST report your placement to your home district after completing registration. Contact your local school district to let them know you have accepted a placement at Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School.

* Once you complete these steps you do not need to reapply each year. Unless you withdraw your child, they will remain enrolled at Wintonbury until they reach their final grade (PK4).

*Once you have completed these steps you can opt to register for Extension (Wintonbury's Before & After School Program). You will receive a link to do this in the welcome letter form the school.

*Once you have completed these steps you will be notified about transportation if your child is eligible. Bloomfield and Hartford residents receive bus transportation to the address (Bloomfield residents) or central location near the address they register with (Hartford residents). If you need transportation to an alternative address you must complete a transportation Change Request Form.

Bloomfield residents should contact the school (860-769-5510 or fill out the Bloomfield Change Form found on their website https://www.bloomfieldschools.org/district_information/transportation).

Hartford residents should contact CREC  Transportation Solutions (860-524-4077 or fill out the online Change Form found on their website under forms https://www.crec.org/transportation/rsco.php).

Direct Links to Change Forms are below:

Bloomfield Change Request Form (Bus Transportation)

Hartford Change Request Form (Bus Transportation)

All preschool students ride in a 5 point harness on the bus and a monitor is present on the bus for the duration of the ride.

Families NOT residing in Bloomfield or Hartford are required to transport their children. You can apply for  transportation reimbursement which is distributed at the end of the school year based on attendance. The application/ information is shared to families during the school year.

Other Considerations & Common Questions

We follow the Bloomfield Public Schools calendar (including all early dismissals planned or weather related).

We are NOT a nut free facility but we may situationally have nut aware classrooms.

We strongly suggest having your child potty trained but this is not a contingency for enrollment.

We are in inclusive school, students with IEP's learning alongside their peers in the general education classroom. Please let the school know if your student has an IEP, is in Birth to Three or if you have concerns.

We follow the State of Connecticut health requirements
click here to view the Early Childhood Health Assessment Form and click here to view the State of CT Immunization Requirements. All health records need to be kept up to date at the school. If your child requires medication at school medical authorization must be provided by a doctor. All medication needs to be hand delivered to the nurse.

We have a robust Student/Family Handbook that will provided you with further information (School Wide Expectations, Supplies, Staying Home Sick Guidelines, and more!)

We are a NAEYC Accredited School for Young Children.

Supporting the Transition

To support the transition to school we carefully plan experiences for your family!

1. PLAY DATES! You will get an invitation to attend a play date here at Wintonbury.

2. Playground Visits! Optional for your family, you can visit our playground over the summer to get used to coming to school and feeling comfortable in this space.

3. Popsicles with the Principal! You will participate in this event in late August here at the Wintonbury Playground.

4. Meet & Greet! You will participate in this event as your child's first day of school. Your family gets an individual time to meet the teacher and see the classroom.

More information will come on all of these events.

So what now????
We will see you soon enough! Take the time leading up to the first day of school to be present with your child, play with them, talk with them, read with them. Try to let them do things on their own to build resilience and independence. When the opportunities arise talk about feelings (name them for the child if needed), validate the feeling and listen. The ability to do these things provides a strong foundation for school and learning (
